announcements

first off today i'd like to offer up congrats to my training partner darrin, who completed the indianapolis mini marathon this past weekend. he cruised through the 13.1 miles (which features a lap around the indy 500 track) in a great time of 2:00:12, which computes to a 9:11/mile pace. he placed 6482 out of 25029. good job big "d". he said the he contemplated a crazy sprint to the finish to try to come in under 2 hours, but quickly struck down the idea because he realized that if he did that, he might have received his finisher's medal posthumously. probably a good idea...
i've pretty much decided to do the wabash valley half marathon in september. it's a local race on a course with "rolling hills". even though they run this every year, i've never done it. the website really doesn't give much info about the course other than to say "rolling hills", but obviously i know the area and there aren't any real hills near there, so it can't be too difficult. i'll probably do a couple of sprint tri's this year just for fun also.
and, OK, well, i guess i'll say this now...... it looks like i'll probably do IMMOO in 2006 and not IMFL. as much as i would absolutely LOVE to meet everyone in florida, it just doesn't make any sense for me to do that race. first off, i've already done IMFL, so i'd like to try a different course. and second, and more importantly, my family could watch me race IMMOO, and they wouldn't be able to go to florida. see, madison is only a few hours from where i live as opposed to 13 hours to panama city. assuming darrin does the race with me, we'd drive up tuesday or wednesday and our families could drive up saturday. the race is on sunday, and the sweet thing is that monday is a holiday, so we could all drive home then. this way none of my kids have to miss school, and they get to take a cool trip that's not too far. the thing i always wanted to do was cross the finish line with my kids. i've seen so many pictures of others with their kids on their shoulders running across that line. what an awesome feeling. i missed that when i did IMFL.
so, sorry you guys! *sob* this is soooo difficult *sob sob*. obviously nothing's in concrete yet, but it really looks like i'll be kickin' it off in the murky waters of lake monona and not in the refreshing gulf of mexico in '06. anyone have a kleenex?
or maybe some hills for me to train on...

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I likely won't be their either for purely financial reasons.

Congrats to your partner. What an accomplishment.

Well, if anyone understands this one I do. IMMOO is about a 4-hour ride for me, and since it would be my first race, I definitely want the family there; this is considerably harder to arrange for FL. Not to mention, with all of the time and commitment that will need to go into training for an IM, a local race is a much easier sell on the domestic front.

I would really love to meet everyone, too, and that's the part that really sucks, but I know that we will all be supportive of each other regardless of the race we do - so, that said, I'm most likely with ya.

And everyone going to Florida, just think of us as a TGD-team remote at IMMOO ;)

Different race, same journey.

You won't hear any arguing from me. Wisconsin is a classy race with AMAZING spectator participation. Someday I'll go back and do it again... the reason I did it in the first place was that it was less than 4 hours away and people I knew could drive and see it. Well that wasn't the only reason, but it was definitely one of them.

I guess i am spoiled. IMAZ is literally out the back door of my office and I run and I bike on parts of the course before there was even a course.

i have chose IMFL for two reasons. First, regardless of family being there, which may or may not happen, I have more satisfaction from being with friends during or before a race- a suffering thing. I have never had family watch me run that I can remember, but I have raced with lots of friends. Second, timing. IMAZ is in April and to me that is a really short time away compared to November for IMFL so I have that much more time to beat the 2:20 time limit on the swim. Do you think I am obsessing on the swim? (JK- its retorical)

Hey do what you do and where you want. Just keep the alliance strong and post all you can to motivate us as much as we motivate you.

*sob* We will miss you!!! *sob* But it does have a certain logic to it.... my family usually can't come out for races anyway, and so it's not part of racing for me, so that's not a real consideration for me. We'll be cheering you on no matter where you tackle the IM distance!
