it's the end of the world as you know it...

i heard that song when i went out for lunch today. actually, it may be prophetic. tomorrow could be the end of an era for me. it may be the day that officially proves that i can no longer beat my kids in running. realistically, i've known this for quite a while now, but we've never had a timed race to prove it. i'll do my best, though. i won't hold back! if i have to trip one of them on a sprint to the finish line, then by golly they're goin' down!

the ideal order of finish:
1) andrew, nathan, me
4) meb kflezighi
5) paul tergat
6) haile gebrselassie

the predicted order of finish:
1) andrew
2) nathan
10) local running club guy
24) girl who's been training alot
57) guy who trains occassionally and just decided to do this race yesterday
168) woman who recently lost 20lbs and is doing her first race
224) overweight guy who hasn't run in 10 years that was tricked into running this race by his buddies
371) 67-year old woman who had hip replacement surgery 2 weeks ago
397) me
398) 88-year old guy who finished in last place because the second-to-last-place guy pulled his walker out from under him during their sprint to the finish

oh well. we'll just see. anyway, i need to get home so i can plan a full night's worth of activities to ensure andrew and nathan don't get to bed too early!

2 years ago my 13 year old whipped me in a 5K - by a good 1:30. Before it began, assuming I'd lick him, I told him that if we got separated, simply follow those in front of him and we'd meet up at the end. We met up at the end all right. He was in great shape from all of the soccer he plays . . I didn't think I was in bad shape . . but

It was a great motivator. Since I reclaimed the family crown but the time will come again soon enough when my mid forties body slips forever behind.

Revel, however, in just participating and knowing that you are one of the few Americans that can even complete the race.

Can't wait to read your report on how the race actually went down. Take it easy on the old guys with walkers.

What were the results? I was thinking about you and Steve Davis at Lifeisatri this morning with his half marathon and your Swamp Stomp. Here's to hoping everything went well. The Tri-Alliance race season is getting underway!

Sounds like a blast! But second-to-last-place guy is going to be sucking some rank Karma for the walker thing. Better be careful on the drive home if your predictions are on! :)
